Microbe-free cosmetics with new ISO Standard

Many of us use cosmetics such as make-up or shampoo to cleanse, perfume, protect, and change our appearance or scent. However, how do we know that the products we apply are safe? A new ISO Standard, ISO 11930:2012 Cosmetics – Microbiology – Evaluation of the antimicrobial protection of a cosmetic product, will help evaluate the antimicrobial protection of cosmetics.

There are several ways to protect cosmetics – chemical preservation, inherent characteristics of the formulation, package design, and the manufacturing process. ISO 11930 will help test their effectiveness in safeguarding consumers.

New ISO Standard will better protect people from harmful sun rays

Issue 41 – August 2012

ISO 24443:2012 Determination of sunscreen UVA photoprotection in vitro will contribute to better protection for people against the harmful rays of the sun. The Standard will help laboratories and the cosmetics industry to measure the UVA performance of sunscreen products.

ISO 24443 gives specifications for an in vitro procedure to characterise the UVA protection of sunscreen products in accordance with a methodology defined in the Standard.

New Safekids campaign – prevention of child cycling injuries
