Revised timber-framed buildings Standard issued for postal ballot

Issue 21 – October 2010

Standards New Zealand issued the final draft of the revised Timber-framed buildings Standard NZS 3604 for postal ballot on 7 September 2010.
NZS 3604 is the foremost Standard in New Zealand for the building and construction industry. Publication of the revised NZS 3604 is scheduled for late 2010/early 2011.

Standards New Zealand has extended the timing for postal ballot pending feedback on investigative work on the Canterbury earthquake and to give the P3604 technical committee members more time to review the postal ballot draft. Many of the engineers on the P3604 technical committee have been in Christchurch and have not had time to review the postal ballot draft.

Once postal ballot is completed the revised NZS 3604 will be prepared for publication.

Comments: Standards New Zealand is reviving an amendment project which originally commenced in 2006. The project was put on hold until a full revision of NZS 3604 commenced as any changes to the seismic zones in NZS 4229 needed to be considered in conjunction with NZS 3604.
