Consumer law reform

Seven consumer laws are being reviewed as part of a consumer law reform. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs recently welcomed feedback on the 'Consumer Law Reform discussion document'.

Consumer Affairs Minister Heather Roy released the Consumer Law Reform discussion document on 14 June 2010 – the result of work the Ministry of Consumer Affairs has undertaken over the past year to review and rationalise consumer law in New Zealand.

AS/NZS ISO 8124.1:2010 Safety of toys Part 1: Safety aspects related to mechanical and physical properties

Specifies acceptable criteria for structural characteristics of toys, such as shape, size, contour, spacing (e.g. rattles, small parts, sharp points and edges, and hinge-line clearances) as well as acceptable criteria for properties peculiar to certain categories of toy (e.g. maximum kinetic energy values for non-resilient-tipped projectiles and minimum tip angles for certain ride-on toys).

Supersedes AS/NZS ISO 8124.1:2002 Safety of toys – Safety aspects related to mechanical and physical properties.

AS/NZS 1927:2010 Pedal bicycles – Safety requirements

Specifies safety requirements for the design, assembly, and performance of all types of pedal bicycles and sub-assemblies of pedal bicycles having a wheelbase of 640 mm or greater, but excludes track racers and one-of-a-kind bicycles.

Supersedes AS/NZS 1927:1998 Pedal bicycles – Safety requirements.
