Safer hydrogen storage – international Standard

Summarised from an article by Dr Chris Jubb and Randy Dey in ISO Focus magazine, June 2009.

An international Standard will help pave the way for larger, widespread applications of hydrogen. Transportable gas storage devices – Hydrogen absorbed in reversible metal hydride, ISO 16111:2008, describes the service conditions, design criteria, type tests, and routine tests to ensure the safety of metal hydride assemblies used for the storage of hydrogen.

The hydrogen stored in metal hydride assemblies will be able to travel across international borders – a major benefit for the industry.
