UPDATE ON STANDARDS IN DEVELOPMENT

Fire sprinkler systems for life safety in sleeping occupancies

Estimated publication date: December 2009
Comments: The Standard is being revised to provide clarification to users of the Standard as to what is and is not a sleeping occupancy. It has also been updated to align with NZS 4541 where appropriate. The published formal interpretations relating to the Standard have been considered as part of the revision. The draft is being prepared for public comment which will commence mid June.

Fire sprinkler systems for houses

Comments: The Standard is being revised to emphasise its application to domestic occupancies only and to address design and installation issues that have been identified since publication. Any fire formal interpretations relating to NZS 4517 since it was last amended in 2003 will be applied during this project. The draft is being prepared for public comment which will commence in July.

Automatic fire sprinkler systems correction amendment

Fire-resistant doorsets and smoke doors adoption

Comments: A committee has been constituted with the purpose of adopting AS 1905.1:2005 and AS 6905:2007 as a New Zealand Standard. The adoption will enable Department of Building and Housing to reference the new Standard in clause C of the Compliance Documents to the New Zealand Building Code. The committee is currently reviewing the initial draft document.

Interconnected smoke alarms for single household units

Comments: Public consultation for the revised NZS 4514 closed at the end of May and the committee will meet in early June to review the feedback. The Standard is expected to be published in July.

Determination of the extinction propensity of cigarettes (adoption)

Comments: The committee has concluded that AS 4830 is suitable for use in New Zealand and feedback on the Standard is currently invited via public comment. The public comment period is due to close on 22 June 2009.
