If a Standard is cited in legislation, our website will state this. Sometimes there is a delay between the Standard being published and the the regulator citing it as additional time may be required to make changes to legislation. We recommend you check with the appropriate regulator if you are unsure.

Some Standards are 'non-prescriptive' – this means they provide guidance or best practice. Cited Standards are usually 'prescriptive' or a means of compliance.

Standards that are not cited provide valuable guidance or best practice to industry or consumers – they can serve to improve quality of products or services, ensure consistency, promote productivity, and encourage innovation.
