The Standards Council


The Standards Council is the governing body for Standards New Zealand.  The Council is an appointed body, with representatives from a wide range of sectors as well as ministerial appointees. Standards New Zealand is the operating arm of the Standards Council.

Standards Council Chair  John Lumsden

John Lumsden began a 3 year term as Chair of the Standards Council on 1 November 2010. He replaced Richard Westlake who had served as Standards Council Chair since 2003.

John is a director of a number of companies including Moxie Communications Limited.  He is past-president of Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce and was a director of Grow Wellington. In 1992 he was the inaugural chief executive of MetService and led its transformation from a government department to a state-owned enterprise.
 
Commerce Minister Simon Power said in his announcement of the appointment, ‘Mr Lumsden has a wealth of experience in chairing boards and brings with him successful leadership skills as previous chief executive of MetService’.
